Core-Curriculum Course of Study

groupinhistoryclassEnglish:   Link students are taught language arts through a comprehensive and interactive focus on the core skills and elements of literature, composition, grammar, vocabulary, and oral expression. A variety of genres is explored including drama, novels, short stories, poetry, media, and non-fiction works. Heavy emphasis is placed on developing the ability to express ideas well through writing and discussion as well as on strengthening the ability to identify and analyze different perspectives and styles.

Science:   Link's science curriculum exemplifies the school's commitment to equip students with the skills and practical experience to meet the challenges of a high school science curriculum. The Link science program stresses hands-on learning and scientific analysis through experiments and performance-based projects for students in both 7th grade Life Science (biology) and 8th grade Physical Science (chemistry/physics).

Math:  Link offers several math courses ranging from basic math to Algebra 1. Seventh grade courses focuses on problem-solving and the exploration of foundational concepts including fractions, geometry, basic algebra, anmrlewisandstudent09d measurement. Eighth grade Algebra students begin developing more complex skills and concepts required for advanced mathematics. 

History:   The history program is a two-year exploration of United States history. It begins with an intense overview of geography and then surveys America's past from 25,000 BC through the late 20th century. The course looks at the ideas, people, and events that have shaped this nation, while placing particular emphasis on its African heritage and when possible the role of the greater Newark area.
