With a full scholarship in hand, Carl Jones, '05 will head off to Gettysburg College this coming fall. Carl, who will soon graduate from Technology High School, plans to study English and education, desiring to someday teach English. This summer Carl will be a counselor at Camp Agawam in Maine, a camp that Link Community School connected him with between 7th and 8th grades and which he's been attending every summer since. Carl recently offered that Link and Agawam have been enormous influences in his life; both instill great values in youth and provide valuable experiences for growth and development.

Link alums perform community service at Link

Nashir Reeves, '07 and Isaac Nelson, '06 are spending a month at Link performing the community service project that their high school, St. Benedict's, requires of  them. The boys have been very helpful in all areas of the school - preparing mailings for the Main Office and Institutional Advancement, assisting the Dean of Students with student paychecks; aiding Ms. Wilson and Ms. Wise in the cafeteria, moving boxes and furniture, serving on a student/alumni/volunteer panel during Diversity Week and helping with student acitivities of all sorts. We are so pleased that Link alumni from St. B's choose to return to Link to "give back" !

Richard Lopez, '05 and John Brown, 05 visit Link

It's always great to have Link alumni return to Link for a visit as Richard and John just did. Seniors at St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, both boys will be going on to college in the fall of 2009.  Richard is heading to Rutgers University with a full scholarship.  He will be spending part of this summer in orientation at the college. John will attend The College of New Jersey in Trenton, with scholarship assistance and is hoping to work at Link again this summer as he has for the past two. Incidently, both young men performed St. Benedict's mandatory community service work at Link in their sophomore year. John stated that he keeps returning to Link because the school was "a wonderful experience." Link wishes both of them the best!

40th Year Birthday Party
On September 29, 1969, Sister Vivien Jennings, O.P. representing the Sisters of St. Dominic, Caldell, NJ signed incorporation papers to create Project Link and started the school on its improbable journey.  Forty years later, Sister Vivien, Link alumni, students, parents, former and current staff and parents gathered to celebrate this milestone in the history of Link Community School, as the school is now named. Carey Hamilton, '71 and Sister Vivien shared their unique feelings and experiences of Link.  Current Principal Marnie McKoy spoke to the audience about the legacy that the Sisters left and the need to carry it on.  And as with all proper birthdays, we finished the celebration with cake. For photos and more story of this momentous event, see the News page of our website.

Link Alumni Canoe Trip with Project U.S.E.
Alumni from four different decades of Link's history gathered together to spend a sunny day on the Delaware River. Alumni canoed all day, having a picnic lunch on an island between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Some alumni had a chance to catch up after years apart, some touched base right before going off to high school and many met each other for the first time. Be sure to join us for this same event next year!
