Congratulations to the Class of 2008!


Link's Class of 2008 graduated in an impressive and inspiring ceremony on Friday, June 6 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church. Graduating 8th grader Emagenee Hawkins welcomed families and guests to the event and Justen Haynes provided the student farewell speech. Mr. Chris Garavente, outgoing chair of the Link Board of Trustees delivered the keynote congratulatory speech, exhorting them to find their "greatness", a distinct possibility for all since, as he continued, "you have a foundation coming out of Link that enables all of you to be great." Mr. Darryl Powell, Link Class of '95 and current math teacher, entertained the audience with an inspirational song, "May His Peace Be With You."

Mrs. Marnie McKoy, Link's principal, called the graduates forward to receive their diplomas and Sister Arlene Antczak, Prioress of the Sisters of St. Dominic, Caldwell, presented them. Academic awards in all subjects areas were bestowed on deserving students by Ms. Keisha Cleveland-Baptiste, vice principal and the subject area teachers. Mr. Powell, representing the Link Community Alumni Association announced Sadiera Crawford as the winner of the annual Alumni Award and laptop computer. Temitope Odedele was awarded the Academic Excellence Award for the highest grade point average in the class over two years. Oluwa Shoyoye was the recipient of the Founder's Award for the student who has best personified the Core Values as well as Link's mission and the vision of the founding Sisters.

Principal McKoy addressed students telling them that "the greatest thing about you is not who you are right now but who you have the potential to be …The world is waiting for you." After her speech, Da'Vion Louis and Justen Haynes, student government president and vice president respectively, led the Link "Call and Response" and Link African Dancers, Jed Joan Edziah and Jamee Adams, accompanied by Brother Jerome on the drum, danced and guided the new graduates from the church. Upon their return to Link, students and their parents enjoyed an Art Show displaying student work, arranged by Ms. Keva Berutti, art teacher.
