Girls’ Mentoring Group visits Montclair business and university

From Kara Noesner, development associate and chaperone for the trip

The first stop was a dance studio owned by Ms. Sharon Miller, whom the girls had met at Link earlier in the year, learning about her career and how she started her business. The girls were thrilled to be treated to lessons in African Dance and Hip-Hop. They then headed to Montclair State University where they were greeted by Dr. Susan Cole, university president, who provided a warm welcome and encouraged the girls to have confidence and courage in themselves to be successful. MSU Peer Leaders escorted the girls on a campus tour, giving them a glimpse into college life and inspiring them to pursue higher education. As final stop, the group visited the Memorial at Eagle Rock Reservation and reflected on the events of September 11, 2001. The girls enjoyed their trip and gained much from the wonderful role models they met.
