Ways to Support Link

Annual Fund

Annual Appeal
Gifts to the Annual Fund provide important general operating support that sustains Link's mission. From teachers' salaries and benefits to school supplies, from transportation to outside programming, from classroom equipment to field trips, the annual fund enables Link to provide the tools necessary for educational excellence to a group of young students who are motivated to take it all in

Sponsoring a Student
An individual, group, company, church or other organization can sponsor a student at Link for one or two years. Each annual sponsorship is approximately $16,000. While all students at Link receive significant scholarships, the family circumstances of select students sometimes necessitate a full scholarship. Sponsors receive updates of the students' progress and may meet the students if they wish. This additional support provides not only the financial means to attendLink, but also another caring person in the child's life.

Special Initiatives
Every few years, Link identifies special initiatives that need support, usually an outgrowth of strategic planning and self-assessment. Support for these targeted areas is critical to maintaining a level of excellence with respect to the academic programming and character development that Link provides to prepare Newark youngsters for success at outstanding private and magnet high schools and beyond. Current initiatives being funded include technology, the arts, and a learning specialist.

Special Events

  • A Taste of Newark -- This exciting and unique annual celebration of Link's work in Newark features the finest food in and around Newark at one of the states' most beautiful cultural sites, New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC). The event, led by a Benefit Committee made up of trustees and supporters and held in November each year, provides the school with over 30% of the operating funds needed each year and draws corporate, foundation and individual sponsors from northern/central New Jersey ABD New York City. Support for the event comes in a variety of ways -- donation of sumptuous tastings by area restaurants and caterers, sponsorships from corporations, foundations and individuals, ads from area and statewide businesses, bidding on exciting silent and live auction items. The evening features Link students in a lively performance and a keynote alumnus/ae speaker. Click here to support the 2008 event.

  • Link Golf Outing -- Begun by a few supporters who were also avid golfers, the Annual Link Golf Outing, held at Metedeconk National Golf Course, gathers friends from northern/central New Jersey and New York City for a wonderful day of golf at one of the finest courses in the area. Led by a Benefit Committee made up of trustees and supporters, event participants get involved by putting together foursomes, sponsoring the event at various levels and contributing to an exciting auction of golf outings at other venues.

Donating Goods and Services
From time to time, Link identifies resources needed to sustain our program - items that we cannot afford to purchase outright, but that would contribute to our program. The donation of an in-kind gift is so very much appreciated as it strengthens our operations and programming.

Providing Programs that Expand our Students' Horizons
Individuals with a passion or interest, and organizations that develop and implement programs for young people, can present opportunities for personal growth that students would not otherwise have access to. By providing funding, equipment, caring adults, and programming, partners have given students experiences in soccer, lacrosse, ice hockey, tennis, football and fencing; excursions to The Island School in Eleuthera, Bahamas; after-school programs, experiential education; summer camps; and electives.

Sharing Time and Talent
Individuals are welcome to assist with tutoring, mentoring and teaching elective classes. Tutoring typically takes place after school, beginning at 4 pm, but school day opportunities also exist for students who could benefit from support in the classroom. Primary areas for tutoring are language arts and mathematics. Additionally, individuals who are available during lunch time can participate in our weekly mentoring groups (Wednesdays and Thursdays for girls and Fridays for boys). Additionally, individuals with expertise or experience in areas that can enrich our students may want to teach an 8 week elective cousre or make a short presentation at our daily morning meeting.
